Court of First Instance
The Lisbon Treaty provides for further specialised EU Courts.
The Court of First Instance is renamed the "General Court".
It allows for a qualified majority of 55% or 72% of the countries representing 65 per cent of the EU's citizens, to set up more specialised courts
Under the Single European Act of 1987, the EC Court in Luxembourg was provided with this additional lower court to deal with less important cases, many of them relating to staff matters.
The Court of First Instance meets in different chambers. Appeals against its verdicts on points of law may be made to the EU Court of Justice.
There is also a specialised court dealing in staff matters.
