Taking up around 45% of expenditure, agriculture is by far the biggest sector of the EU budget.
The future
At the Summit in Brussels in October 2002, the ceilings for agricultural spending for an EU with 25 countries were fixed at:
- 45,306 million Euro from 2004 to 2006
- 48,574 million Euro from 2007 to 2013
