Descharge

The EU Parliament gives approval to or “decharges’’ the accounts of the Commission each year. The Member States then give their descharge through a decision in the Council.

Notes

• In 1998, the EU Parliament refused decharge because the accounts were unsatisfactory.
• This led to the resignation of the EU Commission headed by Jacques Santer on 15^th March 1999.
