Common position

The term a 'common position' is used in two different senses in the EU.

• Under the co-decision procedure, the term is used to cover the Council position on proposals for amendments from the EU Parliament.  See art. 251 TEC.
• Under the Common Foreign and Security Policy, a common position is reached by a qualified majority according to art. 12 and 23 TEU.
