- Gordon Brown (Photo: Swedish EU Presidency)
British Chancellor of the Exchequer since the Labour election victory of 1997. Is seen as a major obstacle to British acceptance of the
Euro: he insists that five economic criteria be strictly fulfilled before any possible entrance. From the most recent public analysis was ambiguous as to exactly how many of these criteria have been fulfilled; some analysts took that all but one of the tests have been been met.
Notes
- Is seen as a possible contender to succeed Tony Blair as British Prime Minister.
