The last part of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Schiller's "Ode to Joy" is the 'anthem' of the EU. It was originally used by the Council of Europe together with a flag of a ring of stars against a blue background.

The Convention on the Future of Europe proposed making "Ode to Joy" the anthem of the Union
