European Investment Bank, EIB

An independent institution with 20 billion Euro in capital. It is based in Luxembourg, and was established by the EU under the Treaty of Rome in 1958 to lend money on a non-profit making basis, with subsidised interest rates, for EU investment projects. The purpose is to contribute to the development of a common market.

The EU Parliament Budget Control Committee has criticised the lack of control over its operations.
