An Anglo-French billionaire who supported a Euro-critical list in France in 1994 and established the "Europe of Nations" group in the EU Parliament.
Established the “British Referendum Party” to take part in the 1997 UK elections. Received few votes, but succeeded in obtaining promises from the other parties to have a referendum before Britain could join the single European currency.
In 1999 the United Kingdom Independence Party had three MEPs elected to the EU Parliament.
