MEP since 1979. President of the EU Parliament from 1994-1997. Was a member of the Praesidium of the Convention on the Future of Europe and represented the EU Parliament in the Intergovernmental Conference of 2003.
Is candidate number 15 of the German SPD at the 2004 EU Parliamentary elections. PES.
