Partnership agreements and co-operation agreements are considered to be extended common trade agreements regulated by Art.133 and 308 TEC. The EU Parliament is only consulted or informed regarding Partnership agreements.
- Europe agreements are designed for countries likely to become future members of the EU.
- Association agreements are signed with those countries that have no immediate prospect of becoming EU members.
Europe and Association agreements need the assent of the EU Parliament.
Notes
The definition is not uniform, but the classification is relevant for the adoption procedure and the involvement of the EU Parliament.
