Has a population of 5.4 million and an area of 40,035 km^2.

Became an EU member state on 1^st May 2004. At the referendum on EU membership on 16/17 May 2003 92.4 per cent of the voters supported their country joining the EU. Has had a Europe Agreement since 1995 and entered into Accession Partnership in 1998.

Slovakia has 7 votes out of 321 in the Council, and 14 out of 732 seats in EU Parliament.

Notes

Slovakia became an independent state in 1993 when Czechoslovakia was divided into two parts.
