Tobacco directive
The EU supports tobacco production under the Common Agricultural Policy.
The EU has adopted directives against advertising tobacco. One directive was outlawed by the EU Court as being outside the EU’s competence. In 2002, the Commission submitted a new proposal on this.
Since 2004, it has been required by the regulations to put on a warning sign on the cigarette box. Since 2005, it has not been allowed to advertise for tobacco.
