The concrete verdicts of the EU Court in Luxembourg. EU case law is one of the motors of further integration.
The Court of Justice has among other things used its judicial competences to fill the gaps in the treaties and legislation. Also to develop new legal principles, in accordance with the goals in the treaties, of more integration in an 'ever closer Union'.
Notes
- Since it was established in 1952, more than 8,600 cases have been brought before the Court.
- To help cope with the cases, the Court of First Instance was created in 1987 under the Single European Act.
The Future
The EU Constitution proposes that a qualified majority be allowed to establish new courts.
