Cox, Pat (1952 - )
President of the European Parliament between 2002 and 2004. Campaigned strongly for the Irish ratification of the Treaty in Ireland's second referendum in October 2002 and again in the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty in 2008.
Former President of the association of former MEPs and former president of the international European Movement and advisor to the Commission.
He was particularly active in the second Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty 12 June 2009.
Was elected in 2002 with the support of the EPP, Liberals, UEN and most Greens, by 298 votes to 237 votes for the socialist David Martin. The euro-realist Jens-Peter Bonde obtained 76 votes for his "fair chair platform" on the same occasion.
In 2004, he was succeeded as President of the European Parliament by Spanish MEP Josep Borrell (S&D/PSE).
