Lamassoure, Alain (1944 - )

MEP and rapporteur for the Constitutional Affairs Committee for which he wrote a report on the division of competences which underlies the EU Constitution. Lamassoure was a member of the Convention on the Future of Europe and was one of the leaders of a campaign advocating referenda on the new Constitution in all EU Member States, and also for having rules on direct democracy inscribed into the Constitution.
A Former, French Minister for Europe. He has been a member of the EU Parliament’s Christian Democrat Group (EPP) from 1989-93 and again since 1999. Elected for the French party, UDF.
