Cox, Pat (1952 - )

Irish President of the EU Parliament between 2002 and 2004. Campaigned strongly for the Irish ratification of the Treaty of Nice in Ireland's second referendum in October 2002.
Was elected in 2002 with support from the EPP, Liberals, UEN and most Greens with 298 votes to the 237 votes of the socialist David Martin. The euro-realist Jens-Peter Bonde obtained 76 votes for his "fair chair platform".
In 2004 he was succeeded as President of the EU Parliament by Spanish MEP Josep Borrell (PES/PSE).
